Dystopian Wars - Hobby Progress

As part of their sponsorship of Late Night Wargames, Warcradle Studios sent Adam and I the Hunt for the Prometheus starter box. I’ve got an old Prussian (now Imperium) force and was considering adding the Russians (now Commonwealth) to my collection, so this worked out great!

The box comes with Commonwealth and Enlightened ships. Adam was enamored with the high-tech whale torpedoes of the Enlightened, and I was pretty excited to fire icebergs at him, so we split it down the middle.

The box itself comes with two sets of dice, two sets of cards, and all the models you’ll need, which is a very nice decision by Warcradle. I do wish they had included two sets of movement templates, but you can buy those separately for relatively cheap.

If you’re interested in what’s inside the box, you can check out our unboxing here:

We got a few games in, playing the typical “three versus three of the smallest models to get the mechanics” game we usually start with when learning a new system. We even had time to play the first two scenarios from the introductory packet, all in one evening!

We did a whole episode of Late Night Wargames on Dystopian Wars and our first impressions if you’re interested as well:

I decided to get some paint on my Commonwealth as quickly as possible, and went with airbrushing. I’ll give you my recipe in case you want to follow along.

First off, I hit everything with Badger Stynylrez through my airbrush to prime it.

Then I hit them with some Base Grey and Dusty Ground from Badger’s Minitaire line, and masked off some camouflage patterns with AK Camouflage Elastic Putty. I gotta say, I’m super impressed with this stuff. Affordable, reusable, and does exactly what it says on the literal tin.

They’re looking pretty sharp already!

I then applied some Vallejo Panzer Aces Old Wood to the deck plating, some Army Painter Weapon Bronze to the pipes, and picked out the crest on the prow of the ships in the same Bronze. Picked out some more details with Vallejo Hull red, drybrush and wash, and we’re done!

All in all getting one ship done as a scheme reference took an afternoon, and I’m slowly making progress as time allows on the others:

Now to get back to my Prussians to finish them off…
